Support Frankie’s Fight Against Kidney Failure

Message from the parents of Frankie
These last two weeks have been surreal.
My family and I had to watch my daughter go through some heart breaking events that began with acute kidney failure. The cause ended up being post infectious from what doctors believe to be from strep.
Her specific case was rare and led her into kidney failure. I had to watch my baby go through a kidney biopsy, catheter placement, five straight days of dialysis, seizures, getting a breathing tube placed/ removed, catheter removal and numerous pokes. She is truly the toughest kid I know. She is in recovery and taking medications at home. Having her home is a blessing I won't take for granted. Although her kidneys are not working to their full capacity, she is heading in the right direction. I want to thank everyone for their donations, prayers and love that you have shown my daughter. I appreciate you all soo much! #tankstrong

8/2-8/4 UPDATE
Frankie is still in pediatrics ICU. She has completed her fifth round of dialysis and has fortunately been extubated. With the support of supplemental treatments her overall health is beginning to improve.
Imaging showed that 25% of her kidneys are damaged and we do not know if it can be recovered. We are at about 15% function right now and we have to take it day by day with dialysis to see how her kidneys continue to respond. Her duration of dialysis is to be determined, but if it exceeds three months, then we will explore the possibility of a transplant.
We still have so many unanswered questions but we are so grateful our girl is starting to gain some strength back. The whole family appreciates your support!

8/1/24 Update
We would like to thank you all for your continuous support and want to send an update on Frankie’s condition as of yesterday.
Frankie suffered a prolonged seizure like episode due to her low kidney function. Because her kidneys are unable to void fluids and regulate blood pressure, her brain swelled causing the episode leading to her being intubated.
Thursday morning was rough on Frankie and the family as she experienced severe complications that were detrimental to her recovery.
Please continue to send prayer. Your continuous support does not go unrecognized.

Dear Family, Friends, and Kind-hearted supporters,
We are reaching out on behalf of our young but strong Frankie Mendez. Frankie is a resilient 9 year old, who is unexpectedly experiencing end-stage kidney failure. This condition means her kidneys are no longer able to filter waste and excess fluids from her blood effectively or maintain blood pressure - which are vital functions for overall health and survival. Frankie’s current kidney function is between 10-15%. She has started and will be needing interval dialysis sessions for the foreseeable future. She’s also facing complications in treatment which are adversely affecting her nervous and cardiovascular system.
At this time, we are waiting for a litany of lab results to determine the cause. Her team of doctors are saying it is likely a chronic disease that silently developed and is now in critical condition.
We are seeking financial assistance to help cover Frankie’s arising medical expenses. Your contributions will provide crucial support during this challenging time allowing Frankie’s parents to focus on her health and recovery. Your generosity, whether through donations or sharing this page, means the world to us.
We are deeply grateful for the love and support,
