Hello! My name is April, and I am raising money for the Franklin Community High School girls wrestling team to purchase a new scale for weigh-ins and uniforms for the upcoming season.
Girls' wrestling has become the fastest-growing women's high school sport in the country. In 2022, Coach Jim Tonte and his wife, Coach Tina Tonte, embarked on a journey to bring the emerging sport to Franklin Community High School and to the local community of Franklin, Indiana.
During its inaugural season, the team experienced a high turnout in numbers and set forth producing skilled wrestlers in every weight class. At the conclusion of the 2023 season, the team advanced four wrestlers that qualified for the state finals, with one wrestler finishing as the state runner-up in her weight class.
In May 2024, history was made when the Indiana High School Athletic Association sanctioned the sport of girls' wrestling. As the 2024 season quickly approaches, we want to set up this amazing group of female athletes for success!
The girls wrestling team at Franklin Community is growing, and therefore, the need grows. We want to present them with the same opportunities, which includes having multiple uniforms for those long tournament days. Having the gear, they need will allow our wrestlers to focus on what matters most: their match.
Lastly, we’re looking to raise money for a new scale to use at weigh-ins. The girls currently have to wait for the boys to finish their weigh-ins before they can proceed with their own weigh-in process. This is not the best utilization of time for practice or for meets. We are looking at a scale from American Scale Company, which is the official scale for USA Wrestling.
We would love to begin this history-making season by supporting these young women and setting them up for success. Will you join the effort?
