Support Fund for Owen Velez Carpio’s Family!

Family, friends, and community,

We are raising donations to help support my long-time friend Owen Velez’s husband and family.

Owen passed away peacefully on May 11th after a fierce battle with Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer. She bravely fought for over two years of chemotherapy, radiation, targeted radiation, immunotherapy, and surgery.

She leaves behind her devoted husband Jeff Carpio, their son Jude (19 yrs), and daughter Olivia (11 yrs). Jude graduated from Hawthorne Scholastic Academy in 2018 and is now attending college, while Olivia is still at Hawthorne in 5th grade.

Owen was a beautiful mom with a loving soul and a gentle demeanor. She loved her kids with all her heart. She had fun shopping for designer bargains with them, cheering them on in their many activities, and sharing snacks and movies while at home. She focused on nurturing Olivia’s clever artistic talents and Jude’s vocal prowess.

Owen loved Jeff to the moon and back. An inspiring, free-spirited, natural affection for each other that was deeply rooted in a shared love for their children.

She was a true friend and old soul who was always there for family and friends. She supported me through three serious cancers, schlepping kids, and dropping off meals, while always staying in tune with how I was doing.

Owen’s rock was her sister Mia, who stepped right into the primary support role remembering all the important details and asking all the right questions. Through all the research, appointments, and tears, Mia managed the ups and downs with grace.

Now, as a group, we can come together to support Jeff and the kids. We can make sure that at this time of need, they are not concerned with the ability to pay major medical expenses and end-of-life expenses. If you are willing, please help alleviate the financial burden and provide for the family while they grieve.
