Hello, My name is Harmony McQuillan, daughter of Gary Goldstein. You may also know my dad as Gary Brooks, his musician alter ego. My dad is a kind, gentle, creative, family man who enjoys playing music, gardening, watching his grand children play and spending time exploring with his wife of 46 years, Jodi. He is a father, grandfather, husband, brother and uncle. An all around "go with the flow" kind of guy.

At the end of March, Gary was diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer. It was a surprise to all of us. It truly took the breath out of all of us. Even more surprising is that he as a rare genomic mutation that occurs in less than 1% of people with cancer. The cancer has spread to his bones, pleural lining causing liquid to fill his lungs and cause uncomfortable, sometimes painful coughing fits as well as in his lymph nodes near his thyroid.

He has started treatment recently and we are all hoping the medication will shrink and stop the growth of the cancer. As his oncologist said, "It's treatable, not curable."

In addition to the unanticipated cost of cancer medications, tests and procedures, he can no longer depend on supplementing his income with gigs as he is struggling with the side effects of the immunotherapy. Simultaneously his long career at Sam Ash has come to an end. As the company is closing all stores soon. So another loss of income.
