Hello, I have known Georgia Marie Barnes for over 30 years. She is one of the strongest people and most charitable person I know. There are not many like her in this world. I am asking on behalf of her and her/our family and friends for help.
She is a single mother of two young men who both are medically disabled. Her youngest was born with sickle cell and has been dealing with crisis after crisis all of his life. His body has been so ravaged by the disease, he now deals with many other issues as a result and is in and out of the hospital almost monthly. Her oldest is dealing with kidney failure and does dialysis 3-4 times a week. She is their sole caretaker while also holding down two jobs to make ends meet. One job she has turned out to be the perfect job for her. She is an advocate for families that deal with sickle cell and uses her many years of experience dealing with hospitals and community care to assist these families. Her second job was working at night to care for special needs adults in their group home. All of her clients love and depend on Georgia. She has always put the needs of others ahead of her own.
In May of this year, she started to feel tired and sick. She went to the hospital and was diagnosed with pneumonia, or so they thought. She continued to get worse as these doctors treated her for pneumonia, then GERD, then an oxygen tank. Around the end of July, she noticed two lumps in her chest. The hospital then ran tests and set her up for a biopsy. We found out on September 11th that she has Stage 4 breast cancer that has spread to her lymph nodes and her lungs. The doctor has given her 6 months to 2 years before the cancer takes her (his words).
Of course, we have so many questions about why nothing was detected sooner as she continued to worsen, but now we are focusing on treatment.
As we anticipate medical bills and the fact that she will not be able to work due to radiation and chemotherapy, we need help with medical bills as well as finding the best specialist that can give her a fighting chance.
Please contribute what you can. Her sons have never been without her care, her family and friends are in constant prayer that God will keep her here with us a little longer. Please help.
