Support Gunner Porter's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
My name is Jere Thompson and I raising money for my patient, Gunner Porter and his family Chris and Avis Porter.
Meet Gunner Porter! He is 12 years old and loves basketball, fishing, riding 4wheelers and tractors, playing video games, and spending time with cousins and friends.
What started out as back pain turned into a terrible nightmare for Gunner and his family. After numerous appointments and X-rays/MRIs, it was determined he had a large tumor inside his spine. Since his surgery on 8/27/24, he has been unable to walk, actually can barely feel his feet, and has poor movement and strength to his upper extremities. During the surgery, the Neurosurgeon could only remove about 85% of the tumor and recently the family got the dreaded news that the tumor was indeed cancer.
This week Gunner is being transported to New Orleans Children’s Hospital to start intensive rehab with the hopes of being able to soon transfer to Texas Children’s in Houston for treatment.
The family is going to need our support, emotionally and financially. Dad, Chris, and Mom, Avis, are NOT the type to ask for help, but have finally agreed to allow me to start a Go Fund Me.
As many of you know, Avis is self employed as a wonderful dog groomer in Benton and will be with Gunner the entire time. Her income loss will definitely impact the family. Chris recently left a very lucrative job at KCS to be home with his family every night and serve his community in law enforcement . He recently graduated from the academy and is a Police Officer for Bossier City. He does not have any paid time off to be with Gunner and will have to stay home with the other 3 children. They will visit Gunner when he has days off.
It will be at least 6 months before Gunner can come home and this will be a huge financial strain for the family. Not only are they stressed about medical expenses, but also the loss of Mom’s income is stressing them, especially considering Dad took a lower paying job to serve his community. Of course there will be many other expenses like cost of travel, food, etc.
This family has already dealt with unfathomable circumstances, I would love to ease some of their financial stress.
Thank you in advance for anything that can be given. If you cannot donate, please share this and pray for Gunner and his family.
