Support Hailey in her fight with terminal cancer

Donation protected
The best day was too quickly followed by the worst. One week passed between Hailey finishing her last treatment in her fight against breast cancer to finding out that it has spread and is terminal.

Hailey has stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, with 5 large inoperable and incurable brain tumors. She has been given 6 – 24 months left to live.

Hailey is a fighter. Let’s fight with her.

Help us support Hailey, her husband, and their two young children. They have a fight ahead of them that will cause a massive financial burden. This fundraiser will help support them in this difficult time, help finance possible out-of-pocket treatments, help allow them to make incredible memories as a family and help provide for their children’s future.

Hailey is a wife, mom, stepmom, friend, sister, daughter, and so much more to so many. She is 31 years young and loves Rae Dunn, baking, and really good red wine. Hailey is married to Daniel, she is a stepmom to Donni (age 9), mom to Harvey (age 2), and don’t forget their dog Carbon! Everyone that has the joy of knowing Hailey knows her heart. She is always thinking of others first, helping whenever she can, and making sure everyone in her life feels loved.

In August 2021, Hailey received the news that the lump she felt was breast cancer, the same type as her sister who was diagnosed the year before. Three weeks later, Hailey was at home recovering from her first chemo appointment. It had been a whirlwind three weeks – so many appointments getting details on her diagnosis and treatment plan, driving over 40 minutes each way for every appointment, and the devastating news that the cancer was in the lymph nodes making it stage 3. One bright light in those three weeks was her family and friends helping move up her wedding, planning it in one week! She married Daniel in her parents’ backyard on a beautiful day that they both describe as perfect.

In October 2021 during breast cancer awareness month, Hailey, and her sister Randi who had stage 2 breast cancer, launched a fundraiser with CancerCare Manitoba to raise funds for breast cancer research. They shared their stories – the diagnosis, the struggles, the treatments. They shared their fight. And above all else, they encouraged everyone to do regular self checks and to fight for their health. They raised $83,000! They made the Winnipeg Free Press, Global news, and CBC radio with their story; two sisters focusing on awareness and raising funds to change the future, while immersed in their own battles.

“Please do self breast checks on a regular basis. Early detection is so important. Take your health into your own hands – literally.” - Hailey

In May 2022, after 6 months of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy & reconstruction surgery, 25 rounds of radiation, and many grueling side effects that came with it, Hailey stood at CancerCare Manitoba and rang the bell symbolizing the end of her treatments. She came home to a surprise party waiting to hear her ring it again and again. It was a magical day that no one will forget. A culmination of a well fought battle against stage 3 breast cancer.

“I rang a bell today. Not just any bell, a magical, special bell. A bell that brought tears to my eyes and made my knees shake.” - Hailey

Hailey called her oncologist later that same week about bad headaches that she thought must be a lingering side effect and a few days later was getting an emergency MRI. The following day, exactly one week after that magical bell ringing day, Hailey heard the devastating news that those headaches were symptoms of the pressure in her brain caused by brain tumors. The MRI showed 5 tumors in various parts of the brain. She was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer that has traveled to the brain with 6 - 24 months to live. Her oncologist gave treatment options, but the message was clear – she isn’t going to win this one. Hailey is fighting for time. Within 5 days, she was having her first radiation treatment.

“I don’t know much of what the future holds, but I am certain of one thing – I am a fighter. And I am ready to fight this. I am fighting for me, for my family, for my husband, for my children.” - Hailey

The treatment plan will continue to evolve as they see how she responds to radiation treatment. Other options may become available in the future. Every step of the way, Hailey and Daniel speak highly of the excellent team of doctors they have working on her case. They are optimistic about possible future treatments and trials, some of which might be unfunded and not covered by insurance.

They need support to cover the financial burden of this difficult time, including the lengthy drives into the city for each treatment, and the cost of these possible treatments that will give her time. Time to spend with Donni and Harvey. Time with Daniel. And maybe even time for more options to come up. Time for a miracle. Hailey is fighting for time, let’s fight with her.

“It took one week to change my life. I’m not letting a single minute get away from me.” - Hailey

After hearing the news of how much time she has left, Hailey began listing so many amazing things she would like to do with her children, her husband, her family, her friends. She is talking about taking a trip with her husband (the first one with just the two of them since their wedding), touring around Canada with their children making lifelong memories, and getting out to wine country with the girls. All beautiful ideas that this fundraiser will help support.

Support of their children’s futures is also incredibly important to Hailey. She is painfully aware that she won’t be here to witness the bright futures ahead for both Donni and Harvey, and frequently speaks of wishes and dreams that she has for them. We can all help support those.
