Hello dear friends!
I'm so excited to finally share the project I've been working on, and it's BIG. Spontaneous Mutation is an album and podcast aiming to reclaim the narratives around facial difference.
Through storytelling, mythology, and re-imagined conversations, the album spans jazz, rock, and folk genres. The podcast dives even deeper into larger themes of first impressions and belonging.
I was inspired to begin this process during the pandemic when I was approached by a couple of reality shows to "tell my story." I realized I wasn't ready to hand that over and it was time to share in my own way, in the medium I know best: music and storytelling.
Spontaneous Mutation is a medical term used to describe the genetic condition I have, neurofibromatosis. Growing up I didn't have much language to describe myself or my story, and it stifled me for many years. When I began writing these songs, I decided to reclaim this term and use it as an artistic lens. What happens to something when it spontaneously mutates in music, art, dance, or life? How do we adapt?
These are the questions we are diving into with the album and a podcast full of wonderful guests and deep conversation.
I am so excited to share what's next with you! All funds raised will go directly to the production and marketing of the album and podcast:
Album: $12,500
Podcast: $1,800
Marketing, PR, and distribution: $10,750
With love and excitement,
