Eagle Project to improve outdoor space at the Hanuman Temple

My name is Neel, and I’m a Life Scout in Troop 32 based in Glenview, IL.

As part of my journey to earning the rank of Eagle Scout, I am leading a community service project that directly supports the Hanuman Temple of Greater Chicago.

Located in Glenview, IL the Hanuman Temple serves over 2,000 patrons each week and welcomes more than 5,000 during major events.

Despite this high volume of visitors, the temple currently lacks outdoor seating and has garden areas that are underutilized and in need of care.

After speaking with temple representatives, it became clear there was a strong desire to create a serene, inviting atmosphere for worshippers and guests alike.

My Project

My project focuses on enhancing the temple’s front garden to create a more welcoming and functional environment for the community. The scope of the project includes:

By completing this project, I aim to transform the front garden into a space that encourages social interaction, and strengthens the sense of community.

Why this project?

As an active member of the temple community I attended Sunday school classes here growing up and have continued to be involved with events.

It is the only major temple of its kind for many miles around the Northwest suburbs and has played a key part in strengthening the community here as also helping hundreds of students who have gone through the Sunday school strengthen their cultural roots.
