Harry Marchant Obituary
Harry (Mick) Marchant, 73, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
Born on September 15, 1951, in Ashland, WI to Marvon L. and Dorothy J. (Sullivan) Marchant of Saxon, WI.
He attended Union Grove grade school, Sunnyside Elementary school, Burlington High School and graduated from Hurley High School in 1969. Later he attended Gogebic Technical College with an Associate Degree in Science.
Coming from a proud Navy family, Harry’s Father Marvon served honorably in WWII. Harry served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1976 as an Aerographer’s mate 3rd class with training at Naval Air Training Center in NJ, then in Adak, Alaska and on the USS Constellation “The Connie”. He and his three brothers all served in the U.S. Navy as well as his wife Beverly.
After his 4 years of service, he followed Beverly out to Rota, Spain, where they lived and traveled for two years until coming back to the States. They married in June of 1978. They resided in Alexandria, Virginia. While there Harry earned a Degree in Computer Programming. In Wisconsin, he worked several computer programming jobs, retiring with disability from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
He loved spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved to party and listen to music in the “blackhole” with friends and family. Harry was a proud member of the Sun Prairie American Legion Post 333.
He is survived by his wife Beverly (Nett) Marchant, his children, Roberta (Lane) Alexander, of Madison, Ryan Marchant of Manitowoc, and Bradley Marchant of Sun Prairie, and his siblings Rick (Phyllis) Marchant of Saxon, Jeff (Lois) Marchant of Arbor Vitae, Ken (Susan) Marchant of Pleasant Prairie, Cheryl (Terry) Bucheger of Pewaukee, Vicky Marchant of Kenosha. Uncle Ed(Judy) Sullivan of Saxon and 3 grandchildren- Neeve, Hermoine, and Madeline.
Harry was preceded in death by his father Marvon, mother Dorothy, and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held at a later date with plans for a gathering both locally and later in Saxon.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Agrace Hospice Care, SSM Health and Home Care and the VA’s care team, including Cornerstone’s Kim Ramsey, for their dedicated support and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please consider the needs of the family.
