Fundraiser for Heather Oswald's Medical Expenses

Update: On November 19th, 2024 at 12:30 am, my beautiful friend crossed into eternity. There are no words but these, He is still good. Even though it hurts and my heart feels shattered in a thousand pieces, I will still lift my hands and worship my Jesus because He never fails and I trust Him.

The night of October 19th, 2024, life as we know it changed forever. Although the events relayed cannot capture all of the details, I’ve tried my best to give you an understanding of the circumstances of this new and uncertain journey we are on.

Heather Oswald, my best friend, is a loving wife, a mom who adores her 5 boys and 2 daughters-in-law, and dotes on her beautiful grandson.

On that night, Heather suffered a stroke at 49 years old. Because she stroked in front of the physician at Corewell Royal Oak ER, they were able to take immediate emergent action including a clot retrieval procedure to remove the clots, two from her brain and two from her carotid artery.

What we didn’t realize is the extent of what was happening inside of her. In the subsequent days, we found out she had blood clots in both arms and legs, as well as in her spleen, kidneys, heart and lungs. The clots were found to be stemming from what she was finally diagnosed with: colon cancer with metastasis to the liver.

During the three weeks Heather spent at the hospital, there are some things you should know, dear reader. Heather saw Jesus, she saw her grandbabies in heaven, and she never faltered in her faith. Her prayer was, “God, if one person draws closer to you through hearing my story, thank you for considering me worthy of suffering for you.”

If you know my best friend, you will agree this is who she is. She loves without reserve. She lavishes on her people. She loves Jesus unashamedly. She and her husband have devoted their lives to serving people and loving Jesus. They pastor a church and are some of the most generous people I have met.

I know that other lives have been touched by this family as mine has been, and this is an opportunity for us to pour back into them during this difficult time. We know God has Heather in the palm of his hand and nothing can remove her. We’ve already seen him working in a mighty way, and are looking forward to the testimony that is being forged in the fire.
