Heba Ehab Hattab and her husband Ahmed Mohamed Mashharawi are in dire need of funds to survive while they await to evacuate Gaza. Heba has a degree in psychology, and in October was 2 months pregnant with her daughter. Over the course of the last 8 months, she has lost her home and her child, been pulled from under rubble, and is now in a dire situation recovering from giving birth and living through the non-stop onslaught of violence happening in Gaza. Here is her story, in her words:
"I am Heba from Gaza. I have lived in pain since my childhood. My father died in 2000 because of the Israeli aggression. I was a fetus in my mother's womb at the time. I and my family suffered a lot, and now my suffering is renewed. My daughter died because of the Israeli aggression against Gaza, and my house was demolished. My husband lost his job and his source of livelihood. We remained without shelter. The war began when I was pregnant with my daughter in the second month, and the occupation forces me to leave my home on foot without means of transportation. I lived through the bitterness of homelessness, and suffered from malnutrition and the lack of treatment. I moved from one place to another in search of safety, and one time the place I was taking refuge in was bombed, and I came out from under the rubble while I was carrying a fetus in my womb, and at the time of birth, I could not find a means of transportation to take me to the hospital. I was in great pain, and I waited a long time until I found a primitive means of transportation, a cart pulled by a donkey. My daughter was born without medical care, and in a hospital that lacked capabilities. My daughter could not find a place in the nursery due to the large number of the the number of wounded and martyrs, she was a very beautiful child. She was innocent and did not deserve this pain. My child lost her right to life. She died in Gaza due to the Israeli aggression. We lived through eight months of suffering and pain and the pain has not stopped yet. Help me to survive in Gaza."
Heba and Ahmed were married less than one year ago, in July of 2023. Here is Ahmed at their wedding.
Heba and Ahmed will use the funds for basic necessities including food, water, and shelter. Heba is recovering from the pregnancy and needs medical attention to help with that. The funds will also be used towards transportation to acquire supplies - the only current transportation available is via donkey, which is quite expensive. They are also grieving the loss of their child. As soon as the Rafah border opens, they plan to use a major portion of the funds to evacuate Gaza to live a safe and healthy life elsewhere.
They are currently living in the south of Khan Yunis, in a tent that Heba has worked hard to make look nice.
These funds will be transferred to them through the PayPal of a close friend of Heba, Banan Khader, who lives in Jordan. These funds will help ease the struggle of daily living as displaced people until the border crossings open and they are able to evacuate to safety.
We know Heba through a mutual friend who is also in Gaza, Annie lives in Minnesota, and Farihah in California. We communicate with Heba frequently to check-in with her situation and understand about her daily and future needs. We hope together with your help, we can help this family find a new future where they can peacefully grieve the loss of their child and find a new beginning.
