Support Hedaya Shamoun's Safe Arrival

Over the past few months, we (Merve Emre, Isabella Hammad) have been working with the staff of Wesleyan University and the Institute for International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF) to bring journalist, novelist, and human rights activist Hedaya Shamoun to Wesleyan. Hedaya is from Gaza and currently living in Cairo. She will arrive in Middletown, Connecticut on or around November 2024, with her husband and seventeen-year-old twin sons. Her appointment at the university will begin in December 2024 and end in December 2025. This Gofundme is intended to help cover (1) transport or living expenses that the Shamoun family may incur in the month before Hedaya's appointment begins; (2) medical, logistical, or educational expenses that exceeds what her salary can cover (e.g., tuition costs for her sons at Middlesex Community college, doctor's appointments, etc.).
