Support Her Endometriosis Recovery Journey
Donation protected
My best friend underwent a long-awaited total hysterectomy as treatment for her endometriosis. The recovery process has been physically challenging -- set back by an emergency surgery due to a complication from the hysterectomy -- as well as financially challenging. Any support you can give will go towards her February rent as well as car rides to and from medical appointments.
About her experience, in her own words:
On October 14th, an endometriosis flare-up began and never ended. I received a hysterectomy on 11/14 and subsequently had to have emergency surgery on 12/3 due to a hemorrhage.
I have been on FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) and STD (short-term disability) since October and therefore have not been receiving my full paycheck. I am now on union leave, so thankfully my job is protected. However, part of my STD ends in two weeks, and I will get paid even less of my paycheck. Due to FMLA ending and transitioning to union leave, my insurance benefits ended, and I had to pay for COBRA for the month of January in order to maintain my insurance benefits.
These expected and unexpected events and expenses have been depleting my funds and therefore making it difficult to pay February rent on time and to continue transportation services (Ubers) to and from pelvic floor physical therapy (which I will begin in two weeks), as well as follow-ups with my surgeon and other specialists due to being unable to walk or sit for extended periods of time.
