Support Holly Machi’s Fight Against Cancer
Hello my name is Nathan Machi, oldest son of Holly Machi and Paul Machi. Our family of 5
consists of me, my parents, and my two
younger brothers.
My mom started a new job at the beginning of October... around that same time, she
developed a nagging cough. It seemed
like a simple cold, and she'd had no prior
symptoms. Two weeks went by and she was
treated for bronchitis with antibiotics and
other steroids but she wasn’t getting better.
They finally did a chest x-ray which showed
a large right lung mass. Then, a CAT scan was
performed along with 2 COVID tests. The CAT scan showed multiple tumors in both lung as
well as the liver. She started running a fever
and feeling worse so my dad took her to the
Cleveland Clinic and she was found to have
pneumonia that developed around the large
lung mass.
Our mother spent 10 days hospitalized at the Cleveland Clinic where she received a
heart-breaking diagnoses of stage 4 Lung
Cancer with liver and bone metastases (Lung Adenocarcinoma). This came out of nowhere
as she had never smoked in her life and was
active and healthy prior to her cough.
Not only will there be medical bills and
insurance deductibles to pay, but her
household income intended to pay bills, a mortgage, and feeding children has been greatly
reduced because she is no longer able to work. Currently she is at home and is constantly on
oxygen due to her reduced lung function.
She is starting chemotherapy pills today and
this will put a massive financial burden on our
family.
Thankfully, she received one month of medication free of charge to get her started.
However, our insurance company does not
cover these specialty cancer medications...and other plans will not accept her due to her
pre-existing condition. Two of her medications
alone (Taflinar/Mekinist) add up to
approximately $20,000 per month.
Please consider donating in order to ease
some of this financial burden as my mom
fights the toughest battle of her life.
