Hello, my name is Hope, and I’m humbly reaching out for your support in a battle I never imagined I’d face.

I’m 42 years old, a mother of four wonderful grown children, and someone who’s always loved life, my family, and my work. For 15 years, I was a preschool teacher, bringing joy to young hearts, until one ordinary day in August 2021 turned my life upside down.

The Day Everything Changed

During a work lunch, I ate a chocolate-covered pretzel, and within moments, I became violently ill. What started as suspected food poisoning soon unraveled into a nightmare. Doctors later diagnosed me with total intestinal failure, Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS), Nutcracker Syndrome, and malabsorption syndrome. These conditions have left me unable to eat or drink anything without unbearable pain and sickness.

A Life of Hunger and Uncertainty

For over three years, I’ve lived with constant hunger and thirst, surviving on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)—a life-support machine that delivers nutrients directly to my bloodstream. While it keeps me alive, it comes with severe side effects like infections and kidney problems. I’ve endured sepsis four times and countless hospital visits, feeling isolated, forgotten, and desperate for answers.

I’ve fought tirelessly, navigating a maze of medical systems, undergoing multiple surgeries, and begging for help from doctors and clinics. Each step has been met with roadblocks, misdiagnoses, and unimaginable challenges. Yet, I refuse to give up.

A Glimmer of Hope in Nebraska

Finally, a breakthrough: I’ve been accepted into the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, a leading center specializing in my rare condition. This program could give me a chance to eat, drink, and live again—a dream I’ve held onto with every ounce of strength.

While I’m overjoyed about this opportunity, the financial burden is overwhelming. Travel, lodging, medical bills, and the cost of transporting my life-support equipment are more than I can manage on my fixed disability income. That’s why I’m asking for your help.
