Help Us Take 5 for Survivors of Critical Illness
Saturday April 26, 2025, I’m joining a team of survivors and providers from the CIBS Center to run (walk) the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K in Nashville—not just for fun or fitness, but to raise awareness and support for something that’s changed our lives: surviving critical illness.
We’re doing this to support Walk4PICS.com and the incredible work of the CIBS Center at Vanderbilt, whose research and care have helped survivors like me begin to heal after the ICU. We’re asking you to do something simple but powerful:
Give $5 for the 5K.
That’s it. We’re not trying to break fundraising records—we’re trying to start conversations, build awareness, and help people feel seen.
And if money’s tight right now (believe me, I get it)—maybe instead:
Take 5 minutes to check in on someone who’s been seriously ill.
A text. A phone call. A prayer. A memory shared.
These tiny acts can be life-changing.
Why It Matters
Post-Intensive Care Syndrome (PICS) affects millions of ICU survivors with physical, emotional, and cognitive struggles after discharge—things like PTSD, memory loss, anxiety, and chronic pain. Many people have no idea why they feel this way. We want to change that.
With your help, we’ll continue:
Educating survivors and families
Equipping providers with better tools
Advocating for human-centered care in the ICU and beyond
This 5K is a step forward—for all of us.
