WHO WE ARE
In Heroes We Trust is a collaborative art gallery and creative space in the Skid Row neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles. We're passionate about artists, gathering community, and heroes. We're a creative incubator and an instigator of WOW. The concept was inspired by all the courageous independents: designers, artists, risk-takers, David Bowie, You. We support, mentor and represent artists and designers by forming synergistic partnerships with brands, companies and music festivals. We produce art shows, events and street art mural installations. Some of our passions include styling photo shoots, designing clothing, hosting dance parties, comedy shows, community open mic nights and supporting artists' residency programs. We did a book a few years ago called 'In Heroes We Trust: Street Artists and Their Heroes' featuring 60 international street artists musing on their Heroes, with a foreword by Ron English and preface by Jef Aerosol. Formerly in Venice Beach, we relocated to DTLA in July 2019 next to the legendary King Eddy - "the second oldest bar in LA by-one-day" on 5th Street."
WHY WE ARE DOING THIS CAMPAIGN
Like so many, we've had to close our business and all activities which had relied on in-person interactions. As we strive to continue our collaborative efforts with artists and community to keep creating and supporting each other, we must shift to meet these times. It is also very important to us that whatever we do reach others who also need assistance right now. With our combined resources and skills, we can do this.
WHAT WE ARE DOING
We are producing a series of artist collaborations and projects, working together with other small, independent creative businesses. We can also provide meals for those in need from Food Bank and Medical Masks by Ladysmyth's Covid Mask Task Force with our combined efforts.
Our first new collaboration is a run of Artist Print Masks with artists David Puck, ONCH & Dave Van Patten. The masks are in production now and will be ready to ship within 7-14 days. Each Artist Print Mask provides work and funding for Artists, our friends at Luxe De Ville, and our fabrication, production & coordination costs. We will continue to add more artists and more items to our collection.
Please see the details below on the various Friends & Supporter Tier Offerings, our collaborators, and who will benefit from your support. Thank you in advance for taking interest in our campaign, we are grateful to have the opportunity to take part in it with you.
Artist Dave Van Patten is best known for his offbeat humor tone fused with comic style sci-fi surrealism. As an acclaimed indy comic illustrator and prolific muralist, he has established himself as a unique bridge between the two contrasting art worlds.
Artist Kristina Drake has been a sculptor since childhood, she explores themes like death and change through the lens of the natural world around us. Animal skulls, insects and geology feature regularly in her work.
ONCH is a colorblind artist and designer best known for his vibrant, eccentric wearable art. His style is a mixture of pop, kitsch and camp with a dash of humor. He hopes his art serves as an escape into a world of fun and imagination.
