Greetings friends, family and comrades:
It has never been easy to ask for help. Today, while corporate and mainstream media profit from telling our stories and struggles, here I am humbly asking those who have followed my work to support me as I’ve been organizing and truth telling for low pay or no pay at all.
For years I have worked in my community, where George Floyd was murdered, fighting the displacement of South Minneapolis’ historic Black community. Some of my work is featured in the new documentary, The Coop Wars. Now I, like so many others, are at jeopardy of being displaced and losing my home after accruing a mountain of debt during this global pandemic.
I am asking for your support to help fund my work so I can complete my upcoming film, Targeted: Young, Black and Harassed in Downtown Minneapolis, Part 2, documenting Target Corp. and the city of Minneapolis’ creation of a sophisticated racialized surveillance state that targets poor at-risk Black youth for incarceration.
It was this groundbreaking work where I first critically questioned the conviction of a 15 year-old Somali refugee who was sentenced to life without parole for murdering three people in 2010. My research determined he did not receive a fair trial considering Target Corp. funded the police and prosecutor's office while serving as an expert witness in court. Now even Fox news is saying Mahdi Hassan Ali is innocent, although they omitted Target's involvement in the injustice.
My investigation into Target Corp’s racial surveillance state triggered more investigative reporting of the multinational retailer and was recently featured in Left Voice and the Bloomberg Business Week’s cover story, How Target Got Cozy With the Cops, Turning Black Neighbors Into Suspects.
My former work as a teacher supporting student activism on the football field is featured in the new book, The Kaepernick Effect.
This past Spring I broke a story implicating Minneapolis police in a massive coverup and suspected killing of a Somali refugee while he was out driving Lyft just hours after Dante Wright was murdered by police as civil unrest broke out. Click here to view my body of work.
When I was interviewed a few months after MPD murdered Jamar Clark, I predicted that Minneapolis would be the center for a national struggle for Black liberation. I was wrong! We have become the center for an international struggle for Black liberation.
Whether you fully agree with my analysis or not, I have been a constant voice speaking truth in the face of power throughout my years as an activist in Minneapolis. No one can deny the efficacy in my confrontations with local elected officials who I believe have engaged in a criminal conspiracy to commit crimes against humanity in our city.
There are few places where you will get the analysis that I deliver with my podcast, documentary films, and writings, that tell the truth as to what’s really going on in Minneapolis and why we’ve become the center for a global struggle fighting against state tyranny and white supremacy.
Your support in helping me reach my goal will not only allow me to finish part 2 of my ongoing film project, but it will also prevent me from losing my home.
Watch the preview for part 2 of my upcoming documentary, Targeted: Young, Black and Harassed in Downtown Minneapolis, that was self-funded and due to be completed last June until I ran out of money. And please share my work with your networks.
Thank you so much in advance for your support.
