Support Indiana Inmates' Right to Read
Donation protected
Fund PSL Indianapolis' new “Books through Bars" program and ensure our imprisoned neighbors can exercise their basic human right to read! We are in contact with prisoners who need books on trauma-informed self-help, language-learning books, and a variety of fiction and non-fiction reads. We have secured publishers who can send the books directly to prisons. We need start-up funding to purchase books, shipping supplies and associated fees, and pay the fees needed to continue communicating with those on the inside.
Prison book bans are more extensive than school or library book bans, even though they prevent our incarcerated loved ones from reading books regardless of their content. How can prisons do anything to rehabilitate inmates by depriving them of their right to access information?
With your donation, we can challenge this form of information control and break through the restrictive guidelines to help connect incarcerated people with the books and resources they want and need, helping them transform their lives and the lives of those around them.
We are starting the project by working with select inmates at two prisons and are confident we can build the financial support to expand our project into multiple prisons across the state.
