Support IRC Employees and Programs in Crisis

As a result of President Trump trying to get rid of USAID, nonprofits that are majority-funded by USAID are now furloughing their employees and shutting down their programs. The IRC just furloughed a bunch of my prior coworkers, some of the most amazing people.

The IRC also has to find a way to fund its lifesaving projects another way, which includes serving babies who are dying from malnutrition, education programs for kids living in refugee camps, vaccination campaigns for childhood immunizations, job support for adults, the list goes on. I've set up this GoFundMe to help IRC employees furloughed and to offer donations to the organization so they can have some short-term funds as they figure out how to keep these programs running without US government funding.

I worked for the IRC for 5 years and can attest that it is an ethical, passionate, innovative, hardworking humanitarian aid organization that saves millions of lives every year. The employees are some of the kindest, most sacrificial people. While I was there, I witnessed with my own eyes a malnutrition clinic on the Kenya-Somalia border that was saving nearly 100 babies from starving to death, a safe space for women who had been victims of domestic violence, education programs for kids, and more.

There is a profound misunderstanding of the role USAID plays in keeping critical nonprofits afloat, like the IRC. Without USAID funding, nonprofits we know and love will cease to exist and suffering will exponentially multiply around the world. I can’t sit back and let that happen.
