Support Jackson County Wildfire Relief
Donation protected
Hi everyone--I have a very urgent request. Yesterday, my county was ravaged by six different wildfires. Over ten thousand acres of land was burned in a single day, destroying hundreds of homes, schools, small businesses, and critical infrastructure. The fires currently threaten our hospital, Rogue Regional Medical Center, an essential source of healthcare for people up and down the west coast. As a result, thousands of people have been displaced.
This situation is life-threatening, especially considering the economic effects of COVID-19. One in ten people in Jackson County are currently unemployed, leaving 22,000 people without income or insurance.
As a rural Oregonian, I know that Salem and D.C. will not effectively respond to this disaster. Our needs, our forests, our economies are neglected while money is funneled into metro areas such as Portland. We need to start rebuilding our community ourselves.
So, my friends and I have decided to create Jackson County Mutual Aid. This fund will provide financial relief through small grants (approx $100-$500) that people may use for groceries, fuel, rent, or other necessities they may need. We are also exploring other potential projects--mask distribution, clothing swaps, etc.
Whether you live in the county or not, please donate as you are able--$5 or $500 will make a groundbreaking impact for those most vulnerable in our community. If you can’t afford to donate right now, please consider sharing this post! We are ready and excited to get to work.
