Support Jacob Peters Family
Donation protected
Hello! This campaign was setup by me, Rachel, to help support my family while my dad, Jacob Peters, is dying of a rapidly growing brain cancer.
My dad was first taken to the ER in Fort St. John, BC just over 5 months ago because of loss of function in one arm and slurred speech. The doctors found a spot on the MRI of his brain which led them to believe it was a tumor rather than a stroke. His condition continued to worsen so he decided to fly to Mexico for treatment in January of 2018.
After more tests and a biopsy in Mexico, the doctors believed it was not a tumor but rather just bleeding in the brain. The doctors in Mexico felt they could not help him further so dad and mom flew home. Dad was given a list of excercises to do at home to regain strength in his arm.
For a short while he seemed to improve but then soon began to worsen again. His speech became more slurred, his balance rapidly declined and his memory started failing, especially with writing and numbers.
On April 11 he saw his doctor in Fort St. John who imediately sent him to ER to be airlifted to Vancouver the next morning.
He underwent another biopsy on April 25th in Vancouver. After which he and mom flew home.
On May 8th dad and mom drove to Prince George. By this time dad was already in a wheelchair. They told him that he had a rapidly growing brain cancer called Glioblastoma Multiforme. Doctors there told him they could start treatments in a few weeks.
On May 21st dad started treatments in Prince George. He started having seizures and his hand shriveled up and lost all function.
Friday, May 25th, dad asked to be taken home. His head was very swollen. The doctor said there is nothing more we can do for him. He might have a few days to a few weeks to live. And so they stopped the treatments. They put him on an IV and Morphine. By this time he couldn't talk anymore.
Sunday, May 27, my whole family travelled to Prince George and gathered around his bed. We sang a few songs, each spoke to dad a few words but his eyes remained closed with next to no response.
Monday, May 28, my whole family gathered around his bed once more to say our goodbyes before him flying home to Fort St John and be taken to the house by ambulance. He was able to open his eyes and smile at us and squeeze our hands.
Since going home my mom and sisters have been constantly by his side, tending to his needs to the best of their abilities. He has hardly responded since getting home.
Dad was the main bread winner for the family and hasn't been able to work for more than 5 months. Out of 11 siblings, there are still 10 at home with the youngest being 8.
The loss of dad's income leaves the family struggling to pay bills, transportation and buy groceries. In addition to the everday survial, there are the medical treatments, travel expenses and an inevitable funeral to plan and budget for.
I am asking for any donations no matter how small. All support will be greatly appreciated.
If you are experiencing personal hardship, I pray that God will give you freedom not to feel obligated to give at this time but to pass this on to friends if you can.
