Support Jacque Hammond's Musical Short Film

In My Own Image is a spellbinding exploratory film unearthing a journey of identity and existence through an EcoWomanist lens.

In my own mind. In my own body. In my own words. In my own way. Imagine a world where healing was possible through remembering who we are. In this place, our inner child offers us a portal to possibilities long forgotten.

My name is Jacque Hammond, and I am an artist and first-time filmmaker based in Portland, Oregon. My intention in creating this work is to show the beauty in reconnecting with our inner child through remembrance and eco memory. Growing up, we learn quite early who the world expects us to be. This work explores the possibilities of reclaiming our own imaginations, because then and only then, are we able to create a world that we’ve never seen before. And perhaps, a better one.

I've written an original screenplay and collaborated with composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Darian Anthony Patrick, and jazz pianist Max Chanowitz to create a musical short film soundtrack. This early phase of the project has been funded by Regional Arts and Cultural Council, Portland Institute For Contemporary Art, and The Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts and we are very grateful! We are now in pre-production to shoot the short film and need your support to do it! As with doing anything for the first time, I am learning along the way :)

We are creating this work for those who have gone numb under the pressures of capitalism and imperialism, for those who are exhausted and frustrated with our attempt to continue in a world that demands so much of us physically, mentally, and emotionally with seemingly no plan to slow down after experiencing collective grief. This work is for those who know they want something more, but may not be able to name it. Those who have been broken and who are putting themselves back together again, who are finding new ways of being. We are especially speaking to people of the African diaspora. Our hope in creating this work is to deepen the connection that we have with ourselves and to our world, and to inspire positive transformation of our communities.

Being able to expand my creativity in this way has already been a transformative experience personally. I am looking to share that transformation and purpose and continue to keep pushing myself as an artist in ways that can have social and community impact.

We appreciate your support!

With love and gratitude,
Jacque
