Support Jaidyn and Tyler

As most of you know on 3/21, World Down Syndrome Day, Tyler and Jaidyn learned of their baby boys diagnosis of Trisomy 21. They were referred to a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist in Bismarck where the diagnosis was confirmed by amniocentesis. Tyler and Jaidyn were traveling to Bismarck every 4 weeks for monthly ultrasounds with the specialist. Baby Odegard had his first echocardiogram on May 10th which he passed! Often babies with DS have a heart defect so this was great news as they thought they were going to dodge that bullet. Unfortunately at a recent growth scan, Tyler and Jaidyn learned of a suspected congenital heart defect. Because of this, they were referred to a pediatric cardiologist to do another echocardiogram. The results of this echocardiogram showed an intermediate balanced atrioventricular canal defect, a large inlet ventricular septal defect, and a large atrial septal defect. Basically, the center of baby’s heart is underdeveloped with two large holes. As of now, babies valves look good so we’ll praise what we can! Unfortunately, due to the size of the holes open heart surgery is in their future. Another hurdle baby is facing is intrauterine growth restriction. Baby has dropped down to the 4th percentile which is considered growth restricted. At the most recent growth scan, mild blood flow restriction to the placenta was observed. This is a bit concerning with the lack of growth and creates a higher risk of still birth. Because of this, Tyler and Jaidyn will be traveling weekly to Bismarck/Minot for monitoring as well as weekly appointments in Williston until baby’s arrival. The next few weeks are very important as they will know more about when baby will be scheduled to arrive based on how he is doing in utero. Delivery will need to be in Bismarck due to the NICU and pediatric cardiologist. After delivery, another echocardiogram will be done to see exactly the extent of the heart issues they are facing which will determine their game plan on surgery in Minnesota. This pregnancy has been and will continue to be full of many unknowns, but Tyler and Jaidyn are fully trusting in His plan.

Jaidyn and Tyler are one of the sweetest, and most caring couples I know. This family is facing financial strain, as Jaidyn and Tyler have had to take time off from work to travel to and from Bismarck so often. With this little one potentially only weeks away from joining us, I wanted to ask for donations for this family to help ease some of the financial stress. These donations will go toward travel, hotels, food, medical bills, and any other expenses that may arise with Baby Odegard. Thank you all for your support and love.
