The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Travis Ward, was arrested on November 2, 2024, and has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

As James's natural uncle, I am reaching out to seek support for my grieving family. Despite our efforts, we have not secured sufficient funds to cover the upcoming funeral expenses and provide for his young child. What if this was yours and I ran across it. On Halloween night, October 31, 2024, my beloved nephew, 26-year-old James Perez, was senselessly taken from us during a horrific shooting at Vancouver Mall in Vancouver, Washington. James had taken his young child to the mall for a festive trick-or-treating event, never imagining that his life would be cut short in such a violent way. The shooting left our family devastated and facing a multitude of unexpected expenses.

Mounting Bills and Financial Strain In the wake of James’s tragic death, our family has been hit with an overwhelming number of bills, including:

Funeral Expenses: Costs for the service, casket, burial, and related fees. These expenses have added up quickly, and we are struggling to cover them.

Burial Costs: Ensuring James has a proper resting place, which includes the burial plot, headstone, and other cemetery fees.

Counseling Services: Support for family members, especially James's young child, who witnessed the traumatic event and will need long-term counseling and emotional care.
