Support Jarod Hill's Fight Against Guillain-Barré
Donation protected
Hey everyone,
I’m reaching out to share the story of my brother, Jarod Hill, who has been facing an incredibly tough battle since the beginning of October. He wanted me to create this post to reach out to his friends, family, and our mutual connections.
At the beginning of October, Jarod started experiencing tingling in his hands, feet, and lips, which quickly escalated to the point where he struggled with everyday tasks and even had to crawl up the stairs. After visiting AF Hospital and undergoing numerous tests, he was transferred to Utah Valley Hospital for further evaluation. Unfortunately, despite the MRIs and other tests, the doctors were initially puzzled.
Eventually, Jarod received a diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves, often triggered by a virus or infection. His condition worsened rapidly, leaving him with very limited mobility and the inability to perform basic tasks, and he lost all ability to walk.
Jarod underwent several treatments that alone cost $10,000 for one treatment, and he received six of them. This treatment was to halt the progression of the syndrome, but he still has lost most of his mobility. He requires assistance with daily activities and is currently on the rehabilitation floor of Utah Valley, where he is receiving physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy to help him regain his strength and overcome challenges like choking while eating.
While Jarod is slowly making progress and we are hopeful for his full recovery, the road ahead will be long—potentially taking months to a year. He will likely need continued support, possibly requiring a wheelchair for some time, amongst other medical equipment. After his rehabilitation, he will need to go to a rehabilitation facility for longer-term care until he can become mostly independent again.
This is a lot for anyone to bear, and I know that Jarod would appreciate any help you can provide. We’re setting up this GoFundMe to assist with his medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and any necessary accommodations he may need during this recovery period.
We appreciate any support you can offer—be it financial, prayers, or simply sharing this campaign with others. Jarod has an amazing support system cheering him on, and your kindness means the world to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’d like to visit him or send a message of encouragement, please let me know!
