Support Jason & Ashley's Recovery

On April 11, 2024, Jason S. King and his wife Ashley were involved in a motor vehicle accident where the at fault driver crossed the center line and struck their vehicle head-on. Both Jason and Ashley were transported by ambulance to Duke University Hospital due to the extent of their injuries.

Jason sustained significant lower leg injuries. Jason’s wife Ashley, sustained a tibial plateau fracture and broken nose in the crash. Her leg is currently immobilized as it heals. As of April 12 2024, Jason has had one surgery on his badly fractured right ankle. At least one more surgery will be required on his ankle to complete the repair. A skin graft may also be needed. He also suffered a broken left kneecap and a patellar tendon tear which has also been surgically repaired. Both Jason and Ashley face a very long recovery time before they can return to work.

Fire Driver Jason S. King has served with the Durham Fire Department since April 8, 2008. Jason is also self-employed off duty performing tree work, land clearing, bush hogging and related services. As the sole employee, there will be no supplemental income during this long road to recovery. Jason’s wife is self-employed as a farrier, she too will not have income during her recovery which is expected to be weeks long.

As they both continue to recover from this accident and surgeries are being scheduled, medical bills and unexpected expenses have created a hardship for this hardworking couple.
