Support Jayde's Open-Heart Surgery Journey

This GoFundMe campaign was created for Josh, Emma, and Jayde Finecy, who could use some extra love and support as Jayde is about to undergo open-heart surgery.

Jayde was born on June 5, 2024, and was diagnosed with Down Syndrome which automatically put her at an increased risk of health complications. Jayde was diagnosed with a large VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect), which is essentially a birth defect that has caused multiple holes in the wall that separates the lower two chambers of the heart. Jayde also has multiple smaller ASDs in her heart as well.

The VSD is a specific type of defect that is found to be present in 1/240 babies in the US and is the most common heart defect in babies with Down Syndrome.

90% of VSDs will close on their own by the time the child is 6 years old. However, due to the size and location of Jayde’s, the doctors were doubtful that it would close on it’s own, creating more issues.

As with most surgeries, there are weight and age recommendations, and at that time, Jayde didn't meet them. They just had to continue to watch her and wait for the right time to intervene.

Since then, Jayde has been hospitalized twice and will need to have open-heart surgery on September 12th at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. She is not at the age and weight her cardiologist wanted her to be, but her little body is telling us she needs to do it sooner. If everything goes well, the hospital stay is expected to be 1-2 weeks long.

During this time, Emma will be off work to stay with Jayde during her recovery. With all of the hospitalizations Jayde has experienced, Emma has not been able to accumulate her PTO.
