Support JB and Madeleine's Son's U.S. Journey

Hi, my name is Linda and my friends Wendy Chan, Peter Harnik, and I are fundraising for Jean-Baptiste and Madeleine who are from the troubled Great Lakes region of Africa seeking refuge in the U.S.

Many of you know JB and Madeleine as incredibly warm, grateful people who are highly educated, kindhearted and hardworking. They were forced to leave their three children behind.

The couple has been helped by our generous communities in Arlington since their arrival. The Refugee Ministry of St George’s Episcopal Church of Arlington (NOVA Friends of Refugees) has been coordinating support such as temporary housing provided by some of us in Maywood, pro bono legal representation, and a monthly stipend to help meet their daily needs. Your past support has enabled them to provide food and housing for their 3 children left behind. We are happy to share that JB and Madeleine are on the path to employment and independence and will reunite soon with two of their children who have recently been admitted to universities in the US!

We are fundraising for the initial three months of living expenses of their son, who was admitted to University of Virginia Graduate School starting Fall 2024. He received a scholarship for tuition and fees but still needs help covering room, board and health insurance. The young man hopes to get a job to pay for his living expenses but has not been able to do that from abroad.

We are hoping that with a multitude of small contributions, we can collectively raise the critically needed $5,300 to cover those transitional living expenses, making it possible for the couple to reunite with their son here in America.
