Support Jeff of Mama Chow’s Kitchen After Severe Accident

Hi, my name is Margaret and I work with Jeff at Mama Chow’s Kitchen in Portland, OR.

On Tuesday October 8th while taking friends on a hike to see the Wahclella Falls, Jeff slipped and fell over 10 feet landing headfirst on a rock outcropping. Jeff was rendered unconscious by the incident and had a partially obstructed airway. A bystander and friend made access to Jeff and cleared his airway. Jeff remained unconscious for over five minutes. The remote location near the falls meant a long response time for rescuers and it took nearly three hours to extract him from the rock out cropping and move him to a life flight helicopter near the trail head. Jeff was flown to Oregon Health & Science University Trauma Center where the initial evaluation showed a depressed skull fracture with internal bleeding, six fractured ribs (three in multiple places), and a fractured scapula. Jeff was moved to the Trauma Intensive Care Unit and on Wednesday October 9th underwent surgery to repair the skull fracture. He remains hospitalized and due to the severity of his injuries will be unable to work for at least six weeks.

As you may know Jeff is the owner operator of Mama Chows Kitchen, a food cart in Portland Oregon. Jeff is known not only for his amazing food and culinary skills, but also for his kind, caring, and compassionate nature. It is common for Jeff to give or buy food for those less fortunate and when he was conscious enough to understand the severity of his injuries his first thoughts were of his dog and his customers. He was especially concerned about what he could do to meet his scheduled catering obligations.

In addition to the loss of income he will be faced with other medical expenses that his health insurance plan doesn’t cover. A Go Fund Me page has been established to help Jeff cover his expenses while he cannot work and it is important that he have time to focus on his recovery before returning to his art of providing excellent meals for his community.
