“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
Back on March 1st, one of our closest friends received a devasting Stage IV Colon Cancer diagnosis that metastasized to his liver and lungs.
Jeffrey began losing weight, which he initially thought was due to his focus on clean eating, increased activity, and overall healthier living. He noticed his weight continued to drop dramatically in mid-February, coupled with extreme fatigue. When it got to the point where Jeffrey could not walk across the room without stopping to sit or take a breath, he drove himself to the ER. They immediately admitted him, and after multiple scans, the doctors found a 7.2 cm mass in his colon. He was bleeding internally, resulting in extreme anemia and massive unwanted weight loss. The doctors were initially very eager to remove the life-threatening mass to stop the internal bleeding and scheduled emergency surgery. Once Jeffrey consulted with an oncologist, they advised him he would need to start chemo ASAP due to the rapid spread of cancer to his liver and lungs. The colon resection surgery was canceled. Instead, a port was placed in Jeffrey’s chest for the upcoming months of ongoing chemo treatments.
As you can only imagine, the unexpected life-changing news was a shock. Jeffrey is young and healthy, and there is no family history of colon cancer. Jeffrey began his chemo treatments in Ocean Springs, MS, but due to the aggressive nature of his cancer, he has since temporarily relocated to Philadelphia to be closer to family and continue his plan of care at Penn Medicine. Between the chemo treatments, extreme weight loss, and anemia, his doctors advised Jeffrey to take a leave of absence from work and focus on his health. This was devasting news for Jeffrey as he recently started in a new position that he thoroughly enjoys. This new and exciting opportunity enabled Jeffrey to learn new skills and further his career in the field of environmental biology. Some of you may not know, but Jeffrey has always had a passion for working with wildlife. For years Jeffrey worked with various state and federal agencies around the country to help save and preserve wildlife and natural resources. When the opportunity to work with the National Park Service in Mississippi presented itself, Jeffrey moved to Ocean Springs. He then worked for years saving and preserving wildlife impacted by a devasting oil spill in the Gulf.
Jeffrey would love nothing more than to return to his home in Ocean Springs and get back to his new job and the work he loves in environmental biology.
Jeffrey has a long battle ahead, but with the support of family and friends, he WILL beat Metastatic Colon Cancer.
Please feel free to share this page with anyone wishing to support Jeffrey in his journey.
Let's all come together to help our dear friend get through this difficult time of need.
Jeff is open to friends reaching out to him privately through text or Facebook Messenger.
