Support Jennifer’s Edibles: Recovery & Relief

We’re asking you to take action and help sustain a pillar of our Evanston community.
Support Jennifer’s Edibles during Jennifer’s recovery and the latest wave of Covid-19!
Last week, Jennifer Eason was walking outside on a particularly icy, snowy day. She slipped, broke her ankle, and just had surgery, and now she'll be unable to work for at least six weeks. Her restaurant, Jennifer’s Edibles, and her livelihood, are now at risk. We’re asking the community to support Jennifer’s Edibles and its non-profit arm that provides home-delivered meals to Evanston’s seniors.
Since Jennifer isn’t able to work, she needs to hire help to keep all aspects of the business going.
How can you help?
Please patronize the business during business hours; and
Donate to this fundraiser that will tide Jennifer and her restaurant over through her recovery (it will help with supplies, rent, utilities, paying staff, and offsetting Jennifer’s medical expenses—she is uninsured); and
Keep meals going to seniors and shut-ins from Jennifers non-profit (one meal costs $8).
Learn more about The Chef, The Restaurant and The Cause
Jennifer is an example of the true American Dream. Born and raised in Evanston and a third-generation Black Evanstonian, Jennifer turned her natural talent in the kitchen into service for those looking for healthier options for traditional comfort food.
In 2006, Jennifer realized her vision: to help others enjoy traditional, healthy meals. She started her personal chef business that's become a staple in Evanston, and then grew it, opening her storefront restaurant at 1623 Simpson St in Evanston’s historically Black 5th ward. Jennifer's Edibles has allowed Jennifer and her team to serve thousands of Evanstonians and visitors, while also providing employment and skill development for many Evanston residents.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Jennifer decided to begin serving Evanston's senior community by preparing and delivering meals to them--without even knowing whether the doors of her restaurant would remain open.
This act of kindness led to Jennifer’s restaurant serving as many as 200 seniors every day through the most dire times of the pandemic. Hers operation grew to become a citywide Evanston initiative, bringing hundreds of volunteers together to prepare and deliver meals and continue serving Evanston’s seniors. This level of service continues today for those who are most in need.
This initiative has grown into a non-profit called Jennifer's Edibles Feeds the Community. The non-profit has become a pillar for Evanston's most vulnerable residents: seniors; the sick; and shut-ins; and others who lack convenient access to flavorful and nutritious foods.
This year is Jennifer’s fifth year in business, but the Omicron variant and Jennifer’s recent injury have marred the celebration of this milestone.
“If Jennifer’s Edibles were to close its doors, it would be a huge hole in the community and the 5th Ward,” said friend and supporter Larry Murphy.
Please help Jennifer’s Edibles and her nonprofit remain present and active so she can continue serving culture, food, and support for those in need.
