Hi my name is Kristen and I have been penpals with Jeremy since 2020. He is a thoughtful and kind activist who is currently incarcerated. He is on track to be released by February 2025 and needs some funds to provide first and last month rent at a sober house, plus some funds for clothing and basic needs and supplies. Please give what you can and share so we can set him up for success upon his release!
Hello,
My name is Jeremy D. Woodley and I am currently incarcerated. I've been incarcerated since 2016, I was convicted for armed robbery as well as 3 bank robberies. I've made poor decisions in my life and I've paid my debt. During my time in prison I've worked feverishly to better myself. I was Vice President of the Rising Gavel Toastmasters Club where I learned the skill of public speaking as well as leadership and competent communication. I've also become a facilitator for the Alternatives to Violence Project where I teach methods of non violent conflict resolution. I've competed Leadership for Transformational Thinking and I've completed several Spectrum courses that deal with substance abuse issues as well as criminal addictive thinking. I am an activist who fights for social justice, prison reform, as well as opportunities for at risk youth in black and brown communities.
This page was created to assist me with my reintegration back into society. Incarcerated people face many obstacles once they are released from prison. Recidivism is at a very high rate after a person is released from prison because they struggle with basic needs and essentials such as clothing, adequate housing and positive support systems. Incarcerated people spend years in prison and are not afforded an opportunity to earn funds that will stabilize them upon released. Some people who are fortunate to obtain institutional employment are lucky to earn $2.03 per day. With $14.00 per week you have to turn around a pay for hygiene products such as soap, deodorant, toothpaste, lotion etc. If you want to make a phone call it cost you $2.50 to talk for 20 minutes. There are so many things that you have to pay for in order to sustain, it is costly to live inside of prison.
I plan on moving into a Sober House upon my release. It will give me structure assist me in my recovery and help me with my transition back into the community. The cost of rent is $600 per month and it will cost me $1200 to move in. I need assistance with first and last months rent, 3 months rent to stabilize me with housing until I can find gainful employment, funds to buy clothing and basic essentials, I'm also looking for assistance in helping me pay $1040.00 fine to be able to get my driver license reinstated. I'm asking you to help me help myself get back on my feet because I have a lot to offer society, I want to work with people with substance abuse issues, at risk youth, incarcerated people, victims of human trafficking ( sex workers),and on social justice issues. I want to be able to give back to the community that I helped plague. Now I want to be a part of the healing process. I want to be part of the solution. Part of recovery is knowing when you need help and part of my maturation is being able to ask for it. I want to break the cycle of recidivism, I want to become a productive member of society, a contributing member of society. There are some obstacles I face upon my release.......stumbling blocks. I'm asking for your aid and assistance to help me get set up after my release. I appreciate you taking the time to read this and I greatly appreciate any contributions you make. Even if you're unable to donate financially I asked that you keep me in your prayers that counts too.
Sincerely,
Jeremy D. Woodley
