Support Jesse and Diane Gutierrez

If you have had the pleasure of meeting Jesse Gutierrez and Diane Mills-Gutierrez, you have surely seen the light that they bring to others. This wonderful couple is a serious force for good in the world! For those unaware, Jesse and Diane were in a catastrophic car accident in 2016. The accident turned their lives upside down and left them both with lifelong injuries. Diane has permanent paralysis and nerve damage. Because of her medical condition, it is necessary for her to have a caretaker with her at all times. Jesse is virtually always that caretaker. They have adapted to this unexpected change in their lives with faith, positive attitudes, courage, and never a negative word.

This GoFundMe aims to help them with basic living expenses, including their car payment and monthly mortgage. Before the change in Michigan's auto no-fault law in July 2021, they were able to make these payments. But now that those changes are in place, they are struggling to do so, and there is a real risk that they could lose their home. It used to be that Jesse was reimbursed fully for his time caring for Diane, which enabled them to afford their monthly bills. But under the new law, family caregivers like Jesse are only reimbursed for a fraction of the hours they provide, drastically reducing their income. Jesse isn't able to get a regular job to make up the lost income because homecare agency caregivers are scarce and not always reliable to help Diane while he would be at work.

Those payments originate from a fund originally set aside for Diane, Jesse, and thousands of other families in the state who live with catastrophic injuries.
