Support Jessica Hoecker's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
Our friend Jessica Hoecker was diagnosed with breast cancer on June 14, 2024. Jessica is a single mother to her amazing 10-year old son Noa, who is Jessica's entire world. Jessica is the most dedicated mom who works hard to provide the best life for Noa.
Jessica was diagnosed with Triple Positive Invasive Ductal Carcinoma - meaning that it’s fed by estrogen, progesterone and HER2 (which causes the cancer to spread more quickly).
With this diagnosis, Jessica was rushed into multiple appointments for more testing on Oahu - including additional biopsies, an MRI and PET scan which were unavailable to her on Maui. Fortunately, these test results confirmed that the cancer has not spread to her lymph nodes for which Jessica and her family are extremely grateful and feeling hopeful.
However, given the invasive nature of this type of cancer, Jessica's oncologist has recommended an aggressive chemotherapy treatment followed by a double mastectomy. This is with hopes to decrease chances of future recurrence and increase Jessica's chances of survival. Jessica's chemo treatment began on July 18 and she will have a treatment every 3 weeks for a total of 6 treatments. Surgery will be scheduled 4-6 weeks after completing chemo. She is awaiting genetic testing results to determine if additional surgery or treatment will be required to reduce the chance of cancer recurring elsewhere in the future.
With so much uncertainty ahead, we do know that Jessica is going to need help. For anyone who knows Jessica, you know that asking for or accepting help does not come easily for her. Health insurance will cover part of her medical bills, but the expenses are already mounting quickly with trips to Oahu, co-pays, new dietary needs, supplements, and other cancer-specific lifestyle changes.
The doctors say that “it’s going to be a rough year.” Jessica is told that she might not be able to work for the 4-5 months of her chemotherapy treatment, or during the recovery from her surgeries following treatment. Additionally, there is a cancer treatment center in Irvine, CA where Jessica is hoping to establish care. This center specializes in wellness treatments to assist with recovery from chemotherapy and to keep patients cancer free.
Survival is critical for Jessica as she needs to be here for her son.
Jessica needs all the help she can get to make sure all resources are available for her and Noa during this very difficult time. Please consider supporting Jessica on her long journey ahead.
Funds raised here will help with:
*Inter-island travel expenses for surgeries/treatment, as well as mainland travel for additional treatment that is not available on Maui.
*Jessica's portion of medical bills and out of pocket expenses.
*Basic bills to cover everyday living expenses while Jessica is out of work.
Jessica and Noa are going to get through this together, but they do need help. Any donation big or small will assist them through this difficult challenge. We will continue to update everyone as new information becomes available. Thank you for all the love and support that has been coming their way.
