Support Jo Dumont through her Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Judy Johnstone, and I'm fundraising for Jo Dumont.

In early November of 2023, my close friend Jo was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Cancer. If this comes as a shock to you, just know this has been an unbelievable nightmare for Jo, Bruce, her family, and her close friends.

The reality is that a cancer diagnosis affects and alters the course of not only her life (of course), but it causes a huge ripple down affect throughout her family as well.

Jo a humble, private person, that has dedicated her adult life helping others, in both her personal and professional life. She helps others figure out solutions that work, not by telling them what to do, but by leading… leading by example, and by encouraging and providing them with the tools necessary to figure it out for themselves. Her dedication to service helps others reach their full potential by arming them with everything possible to achieve success on how to live a clean and sober life. Jo doesn’t ask for help for herself, she’s an independent, capable woman that can do it herself! However, she is now learning the art of asking for help, and it’s a hard thing to do when you’re a giver and a doer!

Jo loves spending time with her family. She has a wicked sense of humor, adventure, and loves to travel. She has raised three fabulous kids, a son, and two daughters, who adore her, and she has 3 grandsons. Between her and Bruce they have 12 grandchildren.

Jo talks a lot about gratitude, she has much gratitude for all the things in her life. Her gratitude shows up in her life through her own recovery program and through her love for the spiritual beliefs that she has come to rely on. Jo is very blessed to have many amazing people around her. She speaks highly of how blessed she is to work in a beautiful positive community of like-minded individuals. She recently had an amazing opportunity to work directly with a special Elder as part of her healing journey. Jo has nothing but respect, love and gratitude for her guidance and help.

Among other things, Jo has the most incredible nurturing, supportive spirit of anyone I know. Honestly, she spreads wisdom, kindness, and compassion to those around her.

This fundraiser could be our biggest opportunity to give back to her what she so freely gives away to others. And, as a collective, we are rallying together to support Jo to help her get through this most difficult time. We do recognize as she goes through this, that she will be unable to work while she undergoes treatment, which looks like it may be chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

After 9 long weeks of waiting, for an appointment at the BC Cancer Agency, she finally had an oncologist appointment. Following that appointment, there will be a possible 2-4 week waiting period before treatment will begin. Its taken a long time to get here and her symptoms continue to worsen, her vision has now become affected, and unfortunately they found a mass behind her retina. The stress and worry of all this waiting alone has had an enormous burden on her, one that seems so unnecessary.

The funds raised will help to ease the financial stress and strain of coverage for medical expenses, and possible travel and accommodation expenses as she may explore a second opinion at the world renowned MS Anderson Cancer Centre in Phoenix Arizona.

The MS Anderson Cancer Centre may offer different and better treatment plans that she so desperately requires. The amount that we are hoping to raise for her is $150,000

We are also very aware that these are tough times for many people, so any amount that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Please share this with family and friends if you feel they would like to help out.

Of course, as her treatment progresses, we will continue to share and provide updates on this page.

The three words that describe Jo for me are - Strength, Grace, and Determination. They truly best describe Jo Dumont.

On behalf of Jo and Bruce, their family, friends, and her family of
co-workers, we would like to send a sincere heartfelt thank you - please know that everything is so incredibly appreciated!

Jo, please know you are so loved - AND we all know that you’ve got this!
