Support Joe: A Retired Veteran in Need

Donation protected
I’m reaching out to share the urgent story of my family friend, Joe, a remarkable 93-year-old, retired Teamster truck driver and Korean War veteran. Widowed in 2016, Joe has relied on his son to be his sole caregiver, managing on his Social Security and Veterans Pension until earlier this year.

Tragically, on March 7, 2024, Joe became a victim of serious medical malpractice at a Chicago Hospital Emergency Room. With diastolic heart failure, he was given a dangerous dose of benzodiazepines and antipsychotic medications, resulting in an overdose that led to organ failure. He spent 8 weeks in the hospital and, despite being independent prior, he can no longer stand, walk, or go to the bathroom on his own.

Joe requires 24/7 care, which is a significant financial burden on Joe and his son. The costs for caregivers and medical needs exceeds $6,000 per month. The weight of these expenses is overwhelming, impacting their ability to meet basic needs. Joe is very worried about the possibility of being placed in a nursing home.

We’re seeking support to help cover Joe’s caregiving costs and prevent him from going to a nursing home. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to Joe. Thank you for your kindness and support!
