Hi, my name is Joe Lucas. On February 24th, 2025, I woke up blind in my left eye. I went to an eye specialist, and they said I had a detached retina and 11 tears in my eye. I had to have emergency surgery, so I had the surgery done the next day.
I am a small business owner with no affordable insurance, so it was self-pay and had to be paid upfront. They told me I couldn't work, so now I have no income. My wife has been off work for over 4 years and can't get disability either. The day after surgery, at my appointment, they saw a problem in my eye—scar tissue forming already—and I'm still blind in my left eye. At the next appointment, I'm still blind in my left eye, and now they're saying I need another surgery to fix what they didn't fix correctly the first time. The next words out of their office lady were, since you're self-pay, you have to pay again.
So, I decided to get a second opinion, and this surgeon says he can repair what the other surgeon didn't repair properly. I am asking for help to pay these medical bills and for a little extra to pay other bills like food, gas, etc. I will probably need at least $20,000 to possibly survive. Life is really hard right now. I have 3 wonderful grandkids and they rely on papaw for alot of fun and time spent together. Thanks for helping, Joe Lucas.
