Support Joe Matthews Healing Journey
Donation protected
Life’s ups and downs often catch us unprepared, and this situation is no exception.
It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, as it is one of the most difficult I’ve ever had to share.
My dearest friend and her husband are facing an incredibly challenging time and are in urgent need of your support.
Joe (Joey) Matthews Jr. has battled chronic kidney disease since he was just 2 years old. Doctors told his parents he wouldn't live past 5, but today, at 38, Joe is living proof of strength, resilience, and hope.
On October 18, Joe received the life-changing call for a kidney transplant. However, complications soon followed as Joe developed a fever, went into septic shock, and was put on life support for 6 days. Tragically, the life support and necessary medications led to necrosis in his extremities, resulting in the loss of his left toes, left fingers, a partial leg, and his right foot.
Despite these setbacks, Joe’s fight isn’t over, but the road ahead will be long and filled with more surgeries, prosthetics, and rehabilitation. Unfortunately, due to ongoing health complications, Joe has also lost the transplanted kidney.
Joe is the kindest, most caring person, and this unexpected journey has been an overwhelming challenge for our family. We humbly ask for your support as we navigate this difficult time, and help Joe continue his battle for a brighter future. Any donation will make a difference and bring us one step closer to healing.
