Support Joey's Cancer Treatment

Hello Friends,

Please read the following update from Tawna and Joey:

In early October, it was confirmed via liver biopsy that the Uveal (ocular) Melanoma has spread to Joey's liver.

In January of this year, the FDA approved of a new liver directed chemotherapy treatment called a Hepzato Kit. This is a pretty wild procedure where patients are put under anesthesia and they essentially use balloons to block off the liver and then pump a high dose of very potent chemo directly into his liver, saturate it and then filter the chemo out. This was the best treatment option for Joey because he has an innumerable amount of lesions within his liver, so other types of ablations and such would not work. Currently, they have shown that about 30-40% of patients have partial to full response to the treatment.

There are only a handful of centers around the country that do this treatment. We will be traveling to Madison, WI, where he will have at least 6 of these treatments every 6-8 weeks. He will also be returning at least once between treatments for labs and a checkup with his Oncologist here.

They will do scans and blood draws at every even treatment to see if the cancer is shrinking and hopefully dying.

Aside from this, Joey has completely changed his diet. He is staying away from gluten, alcohol, added sugar, and many oils. He has been following the Budwig Protocol.

We have looked into and discussed some other non-systematic treatments with his oncologists, and there are none currently that would benefit him without other bad side effects.
