Support John In His Battle With ALS

We are reaching out to you today on behalf of our parents, John and Nanette Allred. We are launching this GoFundMe campaign to support John in his courageous battle against ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is a debilitating neuromuscular wasting disease that gets worse over time. While there is no cure for this disease, we hope that with with your help, we can provide support to John and Nanette as they navigate the challenges of this devastating disease and bring as much comfort to their life as possible.

Between his time playing soccer, serving in his church, attending medical school, working as an OBGYN, and most importantly being a loving husband, father, grandpa, and friend—John’s life has touched countless people. John and Nanette have silently battled the symptoms of this disease for over a year and a half. Since receiving the official diagnosis, they have received an overwhelming amount of love and support from friends and family who want to support them through this battle. They understand that this disease requires the help of many.

To help compensate for the ever-increasing lack of mobility and function, there are many expenses John and Nanette will face. Not only are there costs directly related to ALS including medical testing, copays, medications, and at-home care, but the list of indirect costs from travel expenses, home renovations, and loss of income is quickly expanding. It is estimated that on average, it can cost a patient with ALS more than $200,000 out of pocket. We are hoping to get these funds to them as soon as possible as they are moving to Utah and starting his care at the University of Utah at the end of this month.
