Support John Kamau’s Urgent Cancer Treatment Abroad!

Dear friends, colleagues, and compassionate supporters around the world,

We are reaching out on behalf of John Muchoki Kamau, a devoted father, colleague, and friend, whose life has been upended by both illness and circumstance. Any one of us could find ourselves and our families in this circumstance.

For the past seven months, John has been undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya for a highly aggressive Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer, in the mediastinal area of the chest. Despite his bravery and the tireless efforts of his medical team, the cancer has not responded to chemotherapy. His latest scan revealed that the tumor has now regrown to its original size - a 7cm mass - despite a full cycle of chemotherapy and salvage chemotherapy. It is a devastating setback for John and his family. We need your help.

John now urgently needs specialized treatment abroad, where advanced therapies and clinical trials offer his best chance of survival. The estimated cost for this next phase of care is far beyond what his family can manage alone.

His family’s challenges were compounded when he lost his job with a US NGO that does refugee resettlement and development work across Africa and the world. Like many dedicated professionals working in development and public service, John was an NGO worker with a faith-based organization for 14 years and was affected by the shifting priorities and budget realignments that were beyond his control. His position with the NGO was one of many that were discontinued because of a new direction in policy and funding.

With his sole source of income gone, John has struggled to continue supporting his family—his lovely wife, Milka, and their four-month old daughter—while also battling for his life.

We believe that no one should face such a cruel intersection of illness and unemployment alone and that together, we can give John the fighting chance he deserves.
