Support John, Matthew, and Joel After Tragic Accident

Dear family and friends,

On the morning of August 16th, Johannes (John) Sorensen (22), Matthew Mitiku (23), and Joel Tesfai (22) were involved in a devastating car accident, leaving John and Joel in critical condition and Matthew deceased. They are facing extensive medical treatments, surgeries, long-term rehabilitation, and funeral expenses. Their road to recovery will be challenging, both physically and emotionally. This fundraiser has been created to help ease the families financial burden during this heartbreaking time.

Those who encountered Joel through UC Berkeley, soccer, or any means, know how funny, selfless, and genuine he is. He's a recent UC Berkeley graduate with a promising future and ambitious goals in his finance career. For Joel, the importance lies not in what he is doing, but rather who he is surrounded by. Wherever he is, there’s laughter. He never fails to make it known that the people in his life are important to him. There is nothing more important for Joel than God, his friends, and family.

John is a charismatic family man who is always willing to help anyone that needs it. Currently he is pursuing his Masters at Golden Gate University and is a SJSU Alumni. Everyone who has the pleasure of knowing John would describe him as easy-going, empathetic, and ambitious. Just like Joel and Matthew, he grew up playing soccer which was not only a passion, but where he created a second family. His friends and family mean everything to him and he will stop at nothing to make sure they are taken care of.

Matthew Mitiku was a ray of sunlight to his friends, family, and those who were blessed to experience him. His absence leaves us all with heavy hearts and his legacy will forever be remembered. While we would all like to pay our respects, we kindly ask you to respect the privacy of the family at this time.

-Covering extensive medical bills, including surgeries, hospital stays, and future rehabilitation

-Support for the families as they navigate this difficult time

John, Joel, and Matthew are proud members of the Habesha and Christian community in the Bay Area. These three childhood friends, turned brothers, have always been a support system for each other and anyone who knows them. Now we ask you to please be there for them.
