Support John Pilat's Daughters After His Brave Cancer Battle
Donation protected
In 2017, at 35 years old, an abrupt seizure landed our brother John in the emergency room. Scans would reveal a brain tumor, officially diagnosed as Glioblastoma. Despite the findings, John remained steadfast in his approach, never once losing hope. A support system was in place and much assistance was offered, but as the oldest of 3 brothers and undoubted leader of the family, it was unlike John to be too dependent on those around him.
Over the next 7 years, John would continue operating his business full time, providing any and everything for his growing daughters, and teaching many of us invaluable lessons that we'll hold onto forever. Admirable would be an understatement. We speak for all of us close to him when we say that we're beyond thankful for the countless memories made over this time. Weddings, holidays, vacations, birthdays, or graduations, it didn't matter. Nothing held him back.
That brings us to to 2024, where recent scans showed accelerated growth in the tumor, which was deemed inoperable due to 2 previous surgeries having already taken place. When given the option, to no surprise, John chose to continue battling and would go on to recieve more aggressive treatment. As it stands today, he is unfortunately no longer fit to do so. Currently John is receiving in home hospice care, surrounded daily by the many family and friends who are soaking up what valuable time we have left. While the going has been tough, we know he has been as comfortable as can be, well cared for, and grateful for all the support and time spent with loved ones.
The driving force behind this courageous journey was very obviously his 3 beautiful daughters. Our nieces, Anna (19), Kayla (17), and Grace (7) are of highest priority moving forward. The ultimate goal is to make sure they're aware that they will never be left to fight alone. We hope to raise all that we can through this GoFundMe to alleviate any worries John may have in regards to their short term financial future, especially through these teenage years that lay the foundation for adulthood.
If you wish to further aid in our efforts, we'll soon be providing a link to a 26 Shirts fundraising campaign where you'll have the option to purchase a limited edition Buffalo themed tee. Lastly, we're currently finalizing the date, time, and location of a private, ticketed Buffalo Bills watch party/celebration of life. More details to follow. We very much appreciate all helping to spread the word.
As this may be a lot to consume, we want to thank everyone in advance for having taken the time to read and for all of your generosity. It truly means the world. As previously mentioned, John was never one to ask for help. I'm sure many are even reading this now having never known what he was going through. However, he made it clear that there was no better time than now to share his story. We know that with your help we can lift him and his girls up and show them the love and support they deserve.
Again, thank you! And as always, GO BILLS! - Ron & Nick Pilat
