UPDATE, JUNE 27, 2022

Our dear friend John Waller was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer in the fall of 2020. We've shared a lot of his journey since then through photos and text updates, but now here's a video update, straight from John. Happy birthday John! We love you! xoxo

UPDATE, NOVEMBER 19, 2021:

Hello friends of John Quincy Waller! It's been a year since John was diagnosed with stage four colorectal cancer, and I wanted to give you an update on his journey (mostly in his own words, which you can find on CaringBridge  and Facebook ).  And also point out that I've raised the GoFundMe goal, in order to continue to support John with the essential resources for nutrition, fitness, therapy, rest, wellness treatment, and an exceptional quality of life. Cancer is a full-time job, and it doesn't come with a paycheck, paid time off, or fun office shenanigans.  John has been so receptive to the ever-expanding awareness that has come with cancer, and he put together a very intentional, vulnerable, and thoughtful post  about how people can be there for him, beyond donating funds to help him thrive (though those are very much appreciated!).

On Monday, November 22, John goes in for surgery, entering a new, promising phase of this journey. It's promising in that he wouldn't be eligible for this surgery if he hadn't done all the good, hard work from last year, cultivating an inner landscape that makes HAI surgery a viable option. He'll have a hockey-puck sized pump installed under the skin of his belly which connects to the hepatic artery with a thin tube. The pump delivers concentrated chemotherapy directly to liver tumors. He'll have several days recovery at OHSU, and then will be taking it easy (John Waller style). No lifting of fat cats! Or anything else over 10lbs for awhile.

John's upcoming schedule:
Nov 22: HAI Surgery at OHSU
Nov 26: Expected Release from OHSU
Nov 29 - Dec 3: Daily Short Course Radiation at OHSU Beaverton
Dec 6: Activate the HAI Pump with targeted liver chemotherapy
Dec 20: Begin ongoing systemic chemotherapy with a two week infusion cycle
Late Feb: Find a good view and see how far we’ve come.

Good cheer can be mailed to John at 10137 NW Jack Lane, Portland OR 97229.  GoFundMe contributions will be graciously accepted for the indeterminate future. You can also drop him funds via Venmo: @uncagethesoul

Thank you for all your love and support!

xoxo

ORIGINAL POST, NOVEMBER 2020:
Our beloved friend, John Waller, has stage four colon cancer. He will begin chemotherapy a few days after Thanksgiving and then will receive another treatment every 2 weeks for the next 6 months. He is being supported in Portland by a core team of friends who are managing his home needs, transportation, nutrition, and other critical aspects of his care.

How others can help: There are so many costs associated with cancer management that aren't covered by insurance. We don't know the full scope of those costs yet, so this fundraising goal may change. But currently we know that John will need financial support for naturopathic and alternative treatment, as well as mental health care and therapy.
