Support Jorge Encalada's Surgery
Donation protected
This fundraiser is dedicated to covering the costs of a life-altering spine surgery for our dear friend, Jorge Encalada, a man of God who is loved and cherished by so many for his dedication to loving and serving others. I am the President of Action for Education, Inc. Jorge is our Director of Operations and your funds will be sent to Jorge through our organization to pay for his surgeries and other medical expenses such as rehabilitation.
On June 10th, Jorge was walking alongside the road near his home when he was hit by a car. He was knocked unconscious and woke up in the Mario Catarino Riva’s Hospital in San Pedro Sula with no memories of what had happened. After a number of tests and imaging studies, he was found to have multiple fractures on both sides of his L1-L5 lumbar spine, an L3-L5 spondylolisthesis (slippage of his vertebrae), a sacral wing fracture, herniated disks, and multiple rib fractures. Critically, he has no organ damage from his rib fractures and is able to feel his legs and wiggle his toes at this time but given the unstable nature of his injuries, a neurosurgeon recommended surgery to repair the trauma to his spine. Unfortunately, Jorge was also dragged under the vehicle and suffered a deep laceration to his back that is being monitored by a plastic surgeon to see if it will heal enough on its own prior to performing the surgery, otherwise he may need a skin graft to cover the wound. We are devastated by the pain that Jorge and his family are going through right now but we are dedicated to support him through this difficult time.
Jorge has been the catalyst to so many lives being healed and changed for the better. He has worked tirelessly for so many organizations, including Action for Education, Faith & Humanity Medical Missions, and Medical Ministry International. The common theme in his work has been his passion for helping the people of his country who need it the most.
He is the founder of two tuition-free schools, one being a public school in his community of San Pedro Sula and another a nursing school in Trinidad, Honduras. He has led dozens of medical mission teams that have treated thousands of Hondurans across the country, and he plans to continue doing so until his oldest daughter reaches her dream of becoming a doctor. During Hurricanes Eta and Iota in 2020, Jorge was fearless and led teams of volunteers rescuing people from the mass flooding, delivering food and water, cleaning mud from people’s homes, and providing pop up medical clinics across the country. His family has always been willing to let Jorge fulfill his purpose without asking for anything in return other than helping to make their communities a better place. He has truly devoted his life to serving others for so many years.
Now it is time that we give back to Jorge Encalada and his family. The hospital is estimating that his hospital stay and surgery will cost approximately $20,000 US Dollars. The average salary per year in Honduras is roughly $1,500 US Dollars, and the health insurance system there is severely lacking. He will also have other expenses related to his rehabilitation and ability to support his family. He is a loving husband to his wife Aleyda, and a dedicated father to his 3 young children, Juana, Josue, and Aleyda.
We pray that you will join us in our efforts to support Jorge and his family through this extremely difficult time. We will continue to provide updates as he undergoes the procedure and ask that you please keep Jorge and his family in your thoughts and prayers. We thank you so much in advance.
