Support Jorge Santos After Tragic Hit and Run Accident

Donation protected
On August 4th 2024, 27-year-old Jorge Santos was riding his road bike from his home in Baldwin Hills to the city of El Segundo to meet some friends at a local brewery on a beautiful summer Sunday. Only a few blocks away from his destination, Jorge was hit by a suspect running from the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department. This suspect was driving at a very high rate of speed, ran the stop sign, hit Jorge, and kept going, leaving him unconscious and bleeding in the street after being thrown into the air off of his bike. Several citizens raced to Jorge’s aid and stayed with him until fire and paramedics quickly arrived and took him away. Due to the help and care given by the medics and firefighters of the El Segundo Fire Department, combined with an absolute miracle, Jorge survived the hit and run. He was in a coma from the day of the accident until August 7th (4 days) and now after multiple surgeries continues to reside in the hospital with a broken left femur, broken left hand and fingers, two broken clavicles, two collapsed lungs, every rib fractured/broken/bruised, hip issues, and road rash. He still is unable to get out of bed or walk.

A little more about Jorge. Jorge lives alone with his mother and helps provide for them. He loves being outdoors and going on adventures like rock climbing, hiking, and backpacking. However, Jorge’s true love is cycling. He is an avid bike rider and an active member in the cycling community of Los Angeles. Here’s what a friend and fellow cyclist wrote about Jorge:

“If you came to one of our group bicycle rides in recent months, you probably enjoyed the company of the smiling, positive ray of joy that is Jorge. He brightens up every mile on the road and every conversation at a stop. At the end of a long ride, he’s always happy to divert his homeward route in order to escort anyone back to their car, a metro station, or their block in order to ensure that everyone gets home safely.”

This is who we are helping. Please, any donation makes a difference and will help Jorge and his mother with medical bills, upcoming rehabilitation (which will be extensive), bills, household expenses, groceries, and all of the other added worries this incident has brought them. Now let’s make sure we continue to brighten his spirits until Jorge can get back to his home safely after this horrible accident.

Also a big thank you to the El Segundo Fire Department, the El Segundo Police Department, and the City of El Segundo for all of their hard work, time, effort, and dedication to helping Jorge.
