Support Jose Lazaro's Heart and Kidney Recovery

My name is Maria Barron, and I’m looking for support for my husband who had a massive heart attack on March 9. He collapsed dead at the gym. Luckily, somebody was there and did CPR right away, and he was revived for a few seconds, but his heart stopped again. They did electroshocks to revive him again, and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

At the hospital, his heart stopped one more time. Doctors used electroshocks again to revive him.

Doctors tried to save his life for about 8 hours. One artery was 99% blocked, and the other two were able to get open by placing stents. He was placed on intubation for breathing and another machine to pump blood through the heart. He was heavily sedated for 2 days.

On the third day, the doctors said he was stable enough to disconnect him from the machines and wake him up.

Thank God he woke up and he has no signs of brain damage, but the kidneys were damaged.

He had dialysis 3 to 4 days a week for two weeks.

Luckily, the kidneys improved, and they removed the dialysis catheter.

Also, a defibrillator was placed on his heart to prevent another heart attack.

It is a miracle that he survived through this. I’m very grateful to all the people and the doctors who saved my husband's life. It is a second chance to live for him, and he’s very grateful for that.

But sadly, he was laid off from work, and we had no insurance at the time this happened.

My husband is 52 and it’s going to be a long recovery for him.

He always worked hard, he was always a great dad, a good husband, always taking care of the family and even others around him.

Now he can’t work for some time. He will need expensive medications and follow-up appointments for his heart condition and the kidneys.

He is very optimistic about all this, but he knows he can’t do the job he used to do before this happened to him, and that is sad because he always worked hard.
