Support Josh Rooken Smith's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
My name is Todd Johnson, and I’m raising funds for my cousin Rachael and her husband, Josh Rooken Smith, to cover past, present, and future medical expenses. Some of you may not know their story, but Josh was in a severe accident on February 9, 2024, as a result of a tree falling on him while he was clearing land. Along with a broken left femur and pelvis, Josh suffered a severe head injury. Josh underwent four surgeries from the day of his accident until March 11 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He was released to Shepherd Center in Atlanta to begin therapy at one of the best brain injury rehabilitation hospitals in the United States. To say his time at Shepherd was an emotional and health roller coaster is an understatement. Times of great hope for Josh’s recovery were all too often interrupted by surgeries (some emergency) that resulted in giant steps backward. In total, Josh had eight surgeries at Shepherd. After he was released on July 12, Rachael and family were prepared for a long road to recovery. While he was stable, Josh’s condition had not really improved from the day of his admittance to Shepherd. Rachael, along with Josh’s dad Greg, have done the best they can with the knowledge and training they have learned and observed. They continue to be disappointed with the inability to find at-home physical and occupational therapy. Only God knows what the future holds for Josh, Rachael, and Noah. He has held and provided for them to this point. Many have asked what they can do to help, and besides prayers and encouragement, I consider this to be a way to bless them and let them know they are in your thoughts and prayers. They have had many out-of-pocket expenses related to the accident and have lost a source of income. It’s highly likely that modifications will have to be made to their home at some point. Most of us can look at our weekly/monthly spending and see where we waste money. Let’s be smarter this holiday season and make our spending count in a bigger picture. Whether you can give $1 or $1000, your gift will be greatly appreciated. If you would like to give but are unsure of this type of giving, please contact me for other ways to give. I’m sure any of Josh and Rachael’s close friends and family can get you the info as well. Thanks for supporting and blessing Josh, Rachael, and Noah!
